At the Aphasia Institute’s fundraising event, Courage to Communicate 2005, OTF Board chair Helen Burstyn announced a $169,300 OTF grant. The funding will help the institute enhance its operational systems and develop a strategic funding model that will increase its ability to respond to the needs of those living with and affected by the disorder. Aphasia is caused by an injury to the brain and affects a person's ability to communicate.

The evening marked the Institute’s 25th anniversary and honoured several key supporters, including Aphasia Institute founder Pat Arato, Chief Justice Roy McMurtry and Hon. George Smitherman, Minister of Health and Long-Term Care and MPP (Toronto Centre-Rosedale).

OTF Board chair Helen Burstyn congratulates Aphasia Institute Board Chair Hugh Pattison.
